ABOUT US
Raywood was settled in the 1830s and was known for farming and ranching.
Rice farming was introduced around 1890.
The town was platted in 1893 and the post office was established the next year.
It got its name from Raymond Harwood, a rice mill owner. The rice dryer is believed to be built in the 1940s.
The Unite Raywood committee was formed in September 2025 and is focused on organizing the town to incorporate to take control of the growth we are experiencing.
According to "Texas Uncovered" on TikTok, Liberty County is the fourth fastest growing county in Texas since 2020. It says, "A 29.6% growth rate, and most of it feels like half of Houston just said, 'Let's start over, but with fewer rules.' It's like the suburbs and the country had a messy divorce, and Liberty [County] got the kids. People move here for the wide open space and less HOA rules ... It's rural Texas being swallowed by suburbia ...."
