Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Raywood trying to incorporate?
As the area grows, our vision is to provide local representation that will control taxes and potential revenue streams; regulate land uses; and provide access to community services.
What is the process to incorporate a city?
Basically, the residents of the community must first file a written petition with the county judge. This petition must be signed by at least 10% of the qualified voters in the area. A map of the proposed boundaries of the new city is to be included. Once the signers of the petition have been verified, the county judge will order an incorporation election which will determine if the community will officially incorporate.
How long does it take to incorporate a city?
There is no set time period. However, in order for Raywood to be included in the May or November 2026 election, all paper work must be filed by Jan. 1, 2026.
Will my taxes go up?
We can't answer that. However, if Raywood is annexed by a city, you will be paying their taxes, with your money going elsewhere, with the possibility of not even receiving services. If we incorporate, your tax money will stay here, helping you and your neighbors. And you will have a voice in what the tax rate will be.
What are the pros for incorporating?
See our "Benefits" page for details. But basically, by incorporating, the residents will have a say so on how we handle the growth we're experiencing.
How much will incorporating Raywood cost?
We don't have a definitive answer to that. But we do know we will have to pay filing fees, lawyer fees, maps, etc. And all of that is sure to add up to the tens-of-thousands of dollars.
